Get the Look: Fabric-Woven Ballerina Buns from NYFW

Posted by Team John Paul Mitchell Systems on Sep 26th 2016

Designer Ryan Roche’s romantic women’s label floated along the runway at the Spring/Summer 2017 show. The finishing touch to her ballet-inspired collection was sleek, low buns woven with fabric. Lead Hairstylist James Pecis used Awapuhi Wild Ginger® styling products to create the elegant styles:

Start with dry hair. Part hair down the center.

Liberally  apply  HydroMist Blow-Out Spray® to smooth hair and minimize frizz.

Gather hair into a low ponytail and apply a few more spritzes of HydroMist Blow-Out Spray.

Fasten fabric to base of ponytail then begin to tie knots by working across the hair in sections (start on the right side; similar to making a friendship bracelet). Braid the remainder of hair and tuck ends into a bun.

Use fingers to gently spread out the woven portion, then secure with bobby pins.

Apply Finishing Spray to set the look, using hands to smooth stray strands. Finish with Shine Spray to add sheen.
