When it comes to professional snowboarding, Chas Guldemond is the cream of the crop. He has been snowboarding for more than half of his life, and alongside winning a wide variety of medals at events such as the Burton US Open, X Games and Dew Tour, Chas is one of the nicest and most humble MITCH® men we’ve ever met. Needless to say, we’re stoked to have him on our roster of pro athletes. We recently caught up with Chas and got the inside scoop on what it’s like to be a professional athlete touring the world with a family in tow.
Besides snowboarding, what sports do you like to participate in?
I can get into just about every outside sport. I would have to say skateboarding, dirt biking, and surfing are my top three interests outside of snowboarding.
What was it like competing in the first-ever snowboarding slopestyle at the 2014 Sochi Olympics?
It was a crazy experience! I had no idea what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by how awesome the slopestyle event turned out. Spending three years preparing for the Olympics also took my snowboarding to the next level.
How do you stay fit when you’re not competing?
I work hard in the gym and at home.
What keeps you motivated to keep training on days when you feel like taking it easy?
First and foremost my family keeps me motivated. Plus, the opportunity to do something you love as a profession is extremely awesome, so you can't slip up.
As a professional athlete, how do you find a balance between training, competing and having a social life?
This is the hardest thing I have battled with my whole career! I just try to stay humble and hang with people outside of my sport to keep things fresh. Also having my wife and son keeps me grounded.
What are your must-have items when you’re on the road?
Headphones, a foam roller, sweatpants, and" Stevia, since I don't eat sugar.
What is your recipe for looking sharp for important events?
It's all about having a fresh shower and a fresh cut! I’ve learned that if you blow dry your hair a minute after a shower, it makes it super easy to style!
