When you think of successful women in business, her name makes the list.
Who Is Michaeline DeJoria?
From a young age, Michaeline was preparing to be a leader. She’s shared the memory of how she was three years old and wanted to hurry up and finish pre-school so she could graduate and become CEO of Paul Mitchell. She was inspired by watching the positive impact made by her father and co-founder of JPMS™ John Paul DeJoria.
Employees would regularly find her answering phones at the front desk, working in the warehouse or learning the ins and outs of the accounting department. Every inch of this company was an opportunity for Michaeline to grow into the trailblazer she is today.
Her leadership style is grounded in the principles of transparency and collaboration. Egos are checked at the door, and everyone arrives with an open mind while making decisions at JPMS™. With her business savvy on lock and trusted people by her side, she continues to find innovative ways to cater products for hair stylists as well as make the world a better place than we found it.
Achieving Work Life Balance
With the immense responsibility that comes along with being a CEO, Michaeline has found her stride in allocating time to all her passions. She makes sure to be at school for her kids’ drop-off and pick-up nearly every day. Finding pockets of time for meetings and calls may fall on the car ride thereafter, or even before her family wakes up. One of her most admirable strengths is having time efficiency down to a science.
Her role as a mother makes her a valuable executive board member of Baby2Baby. Her long-time relationship with the non-profit has given her the opportunity to help raise money and support children and families in need. Volunteer work is a value that she encourages not only for herself, but also for those who work with her at Paul Mitchell.
Michaeline emphasizes the importance of mental and physical wellness throughout the company by introducing a Wellness Week tradition. Each year, offices are closed for a week, giving all employees time to rest, relax and recharge.
As one of the youngest CEOs in the industry, she directs the company’s future development for all brands and drives marketing and digital strategies. She prefers to see herself as a leader rather than a boss, and in doing so, she steers away from micromanaging and lets those around her lean into creativity in their roles, which gives her space to focus on family. She is seen as a boss to many, a family member to others, and an inspiration to her community and beyond.
