Branden Rikita

Triathlete

Branden Rikita was born into an active family, where participation in sports was the norm. He competed in soccer, road biking, mountain biking, swimming, track and skiing from a young age, and he showed promise as an athlete from the beginning.

Highlights of his career include participating on two state championship cross country teams, competing in the Junior Olympics for Nordic Skiing and competing with the USAT World Team in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. Branden placed 30th overall and 4th in his age group during the 2004 competition in Madeira, Portugal. He recently switched his focus from Olympic road triathlons to off-road triathlons and continues to climb the ranks among professional athletes. He is currently working to qualify for the World Championships.

We asked branden to give us the scoop on his career, inspirations, favorite Paul Mitchell® products and more! Here's what he had to say:

Three words that describe me are…

Reserved, caring, competitive.

I got my start in triathlons in…

The 1980s, after watching my dad compete. I have now been competing in triathlons for almost 20 years.

My most significant achievement as an athlete is…

Having the respect of my peers, but there are some race results I am proud of too.

If I wasn’t a professional athlete, I’d be…

An engineer for a bike or bike-component company.

The people who inspire me most are…

My parents. They have taught me the most important lessons in life: be a good person, treat everyone with respect and there are a lot more important things in life than money.

When I’m working out, I love to listen to…

Anything from Eminem to Imagine Dragons and The XX.

My hair is…

Messy, but thanks to Paul Mitchell it looks good now.

My favorite Paul Mitchell product is…

Any of the Tea Tree products, especially Tea Tree Shave Gel®.

The Paul Mitchell product I always have with me when I travel is…

Either MITCH® Clean Cut® or Reformer®.

The best style advice I ever received was…

To use Shampoo Three® to get all the chlorine out of my hair after a swim, and then use The Conditioner™.
